Movies that Matter On Tour The Hague curate the aftertalks for the Movies that Matter film screenings in Filmhuis The Hague, Spui 191, 2511 BN Den Haag. Through film and debate Movies that Matter stimulates the dialogue around human rights and a sustainable society.
On the 11th of December (upcoming Sunday) at 15:00 we will present ‘Erasing Frank’ by Gábor Fabricius.
In the aftertalk, Lithuanian punk scholar Aurelija Dagilytė – Drevel and Leiden University East European history Professor Sarah Cramsey will put the film’s subject into 1980s Hungarian and similar historical context. The aftertalk will be moderated by one of our team members, in English.
Synopsis:
In communist Hungary, in 1983 punk singer Frank is placed in a psychiatric clinic. There he meets Hanna, who does not talk but with whom he feels an intuitive, artistic and personal connection. Together they are determined to stand up to the regime.
We think it would be valuable for the audience to learn more about the political elements of punk culture, specifically in the context of repressive regimes.
