Raphaelle Devins, Cheap ‘n’ Nasty saxophone player

Raphaelle Devins was the first woman guitarist in any rock genre in France, when in early 1977 she became co-founder of all-women the Lou’s, one of the first European continent punk bands.

Rest in power, Raphaelle!

In 1981 in Leiden in the Netherlands, she became Cheap ‘n’ Nasty saxophone player. She also founded a second band in Leiden.

Meaning of band name:

What’s My Name is a 1976 song by the Clash. The first band of band founder Raphaelle, the Lou’s, had been opening band for the Clash.

Biography:

Founded in autumn 1981 by Raphaelle Devins, as a sideline to her saxophone playing in Cheap ‘n’ Nasty, again playing guitar, like she had done in the Lou’s. She recruited Nicholas, and Pim (also the Cheap ‘n’ Nasty drummer). Stopped when Raphaelle moved to Amsterdam later that year.
