Riot Grrrls, a Finnish MA thesis

Ugly Girls on Stage: Riot Grrrl Reflected through Misrepresentations.

This is a 2009 MA thesis by Susanna Rönn, of the University of Vaasa in Finland.

This thesis is on the post-1990 Riot Grrrl movement, focusing on three United States bands: Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Heavens to Betsy; and Huggy Bear from the UK.

According to the author, there are many misunderstandings about this tendency, caused by factors like generation gaps, like, mentioned on p. 24:

‘Well-known [1960s second wave] feminist writer and scholar Germaine Greer has labeled riot grrrls as rather ignorant young women known mostly for their “ostentatious sluttishness and disorderly behavior”.
